Great-grandmother TURNER (HARNESS) told Aunt Fau (Elizabeth Francis ?) that the TURNERS left England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth and went to Richmond, Virginia. Later some of the descendents went to Missouri.

Great-grandmother's name was (Mary ?) HARNESS before she married TURNER. The HARNESS folk claimed they had been Holland Dutch who had come to New York. When Great-grandmother was about nine years of age her people migrated to Missouri. She told Aunt Fau, that she and the older children walked part of the way every day. They put the younger ones in the feed box that was fastened on the back of the wagon and they rode for awhile. In the wagon was all the famiily possessed. They led a cow and her calif. They were a long time getting to their new home. Great-great-grandmother HARNESS was the first white women in St. Joseph, Missouri. They homesteaded 1000 acres. Aunt Fau visited there later when they owned beautiful orchards.

The spelling of RACHAEL was taken from her gravestone in Benzie Co. MI
