Description:The Grand Canyon National Park
is one of the nation's most visited travel destinations.
The [(Grand Canyon - North Rim)] is separated from the
South Rim by the mighty [(Colorado River)] that formed
this great wonder. The cascading water has been
scouring out layers of stone for thousands of years to
sculpture the beauty of the Grand Canyon. The North Rim
is not as well known as the south but it offers more
magnificent, yet accessible panoramic vistas and fewer
visitors than the South Rim. It is worth the investment
in time and energy to go to the North Rim of the Grand
Canyon. Services are found outside the park at
[(Jacob Lake Lodge)], the [(Country Store)] across from
the [(Kaibab Lodge)], and in the park at the [(North
Rim Village)]. They offer groceries, camping supplies,
gasoline and other necessary gear and services needed
by the public.
The Grand Canyon is considered one of the seven natural
wonders of the world. It is a destination that should
not be bypassed when you are visiting the Southern
Utah's Park Central Country. Picture ponderosa pine,
aspen, mule deer, wild turkey and vast meadows
surrounded by towering multi-colored formations and
plunging chasms. Spectacular [(Vistas)] of the canyons
thousands of feet below are accessed by motor vehicles
at [(Point Imperial)] and [(Cape Royal)]. Back country
roads and campgrounds on the Kiabab Forest offer
additional outdoor vistas and activity experiences for
a wide choice recreational opportunities. All this
makes up the dramatic beauty of the Grand Canyon. If
your heart is for adventure, [(click)] for travel plan
descriptions that will detail multi-day itineraries of
things to see and do on the North Rim of the Grand
Canyon.
Season:
Unlike [(Bryce)] and [(Zion)], the North
Rim is closed to automobile traffic in the winter.
This section of the Grand Canyon National Park is open
from mid-May to mid-October or until the heavy snows
close the roads.
Location:
Accessible 78 miles south of Kanab, Utah on
[(Byway 89A then 67)] through the Kaibab Forest on
superbly maintained highways. Roads to the major
lookouts along the North Rim are also easy to follow
and are well marked.
