The White House Repeater is now up and operating

The White House Repeater is now up and operating

After many trips to the site, much frustration with faulty antennas, way too much RF from about ten or twelve other repeaters using the same site, and about a million bites from our own kanab kanats, the cross band repeater is now on line.  There are still some small changes, tweeking, etc. to be done, but it is now possible to communicate from anywhere in Kanab with the 91 repeater in St. George with nothing more than a handy talky and a rubber duck.  One big IF----------------------------Your HT has to be capable of UHF.This is a cross band repeater.  Between Kanab and the site at White House, the signal is UHF. Between the White House site and the 91 repeater, is us VHF.

There will be a demo at the next club meeting. We want to thank Jerry, Randy and Clyde for the use of their equipment. In addition, we want to thank Jim, WI7M, Dean, and Shwana for what they added to the project.

I felt that is was a lot of fun, inspite of the frustration, and a good club project. Hopefully we can have more projects that will allow more members to participate.

A Super Outing at Zion

What a great time was had by all who were able to attend the Zion outing.  We have several more outing lined up for the summer.  Be sure to attend the meetings to get all the scoop on these outings.

        Looks like two HAPPY CAMPERS

Don’t forget the Thursday  lunch. Check the two meter repeater for place.

I understand that the Pine Lake outing didn’t have too many people, but lots and lots of fish. Jerry and Roy were hooking them faster than they could pull them in.

WE WERE NOT READY WHEN WE WERE CALLED TO HELP WITH EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!!!

As many of you know we had a minor emergency here in Southern Utah and when the KCARC was called on for help, we fell flat on our faces.  I am not in any way laying the blame on any one person.  After all we can’t expect someone to handle emergency traffic on a band that he has never operated on before.  Having been awakened in the wee hours of the morning, I was somewhat groggy and not thinking too well. Had I been prepared I would not have had to think. I could just do what I was trained to do. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am very red faced and embarrassed this morning. Let’s get our act together, start training, have some drills, and be ready should we ever be called on again.  In the next few weeks lets each of us give this some serious thought and come to our next meeting with some good ideas on how we can prepare should we ever be called on again.
